November 2008Blast Alarms for the mining industry activated by TetraFlex GMG Solutions announces a new development for sending Blast Alarms for mine sites via DAMM's TetraFlex Tetra network.
With the simple press of a button or code entry on their Tetra radio, users on a mine site can activate and deactivate blast alarms. TetraFlex will recognise this SDS call and then play a wave file alarm across all radio talkgroups on site. A user customised text message can also accompany the alarm to provide detailed information on blast status, location etc. Radio users can still talk normally on their designated user group, however they will hear the blast alarm intermittently in the background.
Geoff Wood from GMG Solutions says this development was necessary due to requests from within mining industry. Geoff also states that because TetraFlex has a freely available Application Programming Interface (API), implementing this feature was not only possible but also relatively simple.
