Rio Tinto Alcan continues with TETRA solutions.

Rio Tinto Alcan has continued deploying DAMM Cellular Systems Tetra solutions at their smelters with the soon to be commissioned TetraFlex^® system at Yarwun Alumina Refinery in North Queensland.

The Yarwun Plants Tetra installation is part of the expansion plan for the site with TetraFlex^® forming the communications backbone for the expansion. During construction, TetraFlex^® will be integrated into their existing Motorola Smartnet system so users on both technologies can seamlessly communicated on common talkgroups.

Once the expansion is complete the old Smartnet system will be removed. TetraFlex^® will then provide the site with all the functionality of a trunked system that users are familiar with plus the added features that can only be accomplished using TETRA technology. These include enhancements such as full duplex private radio to radio calls, telephony calls and alarm text messaging and command control capabilities.
